Heavy Music Roundup | 5 Bands with New Releases You Can’t Skip

We’ve been discovering some amazing new music over the last couple of weeks and we just had to tell you about it. Here are 5 bands with releases in August and early September, that we’re adding to our playlists.

1. NAKEDBURN - "cannibal"

With their recent announcement that they’ve signed with Arson Theory, NAKEDBURN release one of their heaviest songs to date titled cannibal, blending classic sad emo lyrics, with growling bass tones, and more screaming than in the rest of their discography combined.

2. Spiritbox - Mourning

They’ve come so far from being just a small outfit out of British Columbia, Canada. No band is more deserving of the success they’ve built for themselves than the Spiritbox group. Do they need the publicity at this point? I don’t think so, but we’re going to sing our praises of Mourning anyways.

3. Planning For Burial / Psalm Split

Having had the opportunity to see Planning For Burial perform at Prepare The Ground Festival in Toronto back in 2025, I can tell you that regardless of how you perceive the music, the live performance is heavy. It’s slow, the guitars are distorted and bathed in effects, and it’s emotionally heavy. This is an artist that breaks the genre mold of what we typically cover at False Chord, but we will feature it because we believe in Thom Wasluck.

4. We Came As Romans - Culture Wound

What an absolute masterclass of blending two languages together in one song beautifully. Combining a modern WCAR sound that we’re very excited about, with Landrones’ vocals is chef’s kiss. The only thing better would be if we got the rest of the We Came As Romans album soon.

5. From Theives To Martyrs

Metalcore is not an easy genre to be a solo artist, but From Thieves to Martyrs is pulling it off with a debut EP that’s reminiscent of August Burns Red’s Thrill Seeker era. It’s fast paced, guitar-driven, and melodic without relying on singing through every chorus. And what’s nice is that each song on the 7-track album has its own identity. Something that can’t be said for every metalcore record that’s being put out these days.
