New Release: Rune drops her latest single Serpentine

Hot on the heels of her much anticipated debut EP Depth Perception, Rune is back with a fresh new single Serpentine.

Serpentine opens with saturated, reverb-heavy vocals and pulsing electronic synths, a staple of her previous releases. The first half of the track is delightedly similar to something you’d hear from Lights (another great Canadian artist), soft vocals and rich synths. Rune’s vocal lines float effortlessly overtop of the instrumentals, that is until your hit with a huge drum fill followed by a hard-hitting breakdown.

Lyrically, Rune said “Serpentine was written in a place of anger and frustration. I think there’s a lot going on right now, and there are things coming to the surface that we’ve all collectively kept buried or have not been able to acknowledge. It’s a song written about that rising darkness, and choosing to instead reclaim my own autonomy and power as opposed to allowing others to retain their grip over me.”

Serpentine feels like a reclamation of strength and an ode to resiliency, something I think we all need to hear at times.
